Do you have an engaging workshop to offer? Join our team as a Workshop Presenter!

The Third Annual Summer Institute in Digital Literacy in Providence will be held July 27 - 31, 2015. We are seeking dynamic and engaging workshops from teachers, school leaders, librarians, college faculty, ed tech entrepreneurs, researchers and media professionals. You'll get to work shoulder-to-shoulder with world-class experts in digital literacy and assist with program development and implementation.

Overall Structure of the Institute. As you consider submitting a proposal to present at the Summer Institute in Digital Literacy, you should know our institute sessions are structured a little differently than a typical conference presentation.  At the Summer Institute, participants (like you) will engage with deep dive explorations of content in the morning facilitated by members of the faculty. Then, each afternoon, over the five days, you will work with a partner in Design Studio to plan and design a media/technology project that will assist and enhance your teaching. On the final day, projects are shared in an exciting gallery walk with the whole group along with plans for next steps.

As part of the Summer Institute, you are invited to offer a presentation for a series of afternoon sessions before Design Studio. After reading about the purpose and format of each type of session, select the session type most appropriate to your interests and organize your proposal using the directions in each application form.

Workshop Sessions.  Workshop sessions are designed to engage participants in learning through hands-on, minds-on experiences:

  1. TIPS & TOOLS. Demonstrate, explore and use a digital media tool.
  2. AMAZING TEXTS. Examine and analyze resources on digital literacy, including books, videos, websites, games and more.
  3. PROMISING PRACTICES. Share lessons, projects or ideas that you've tried out or you think have potential to engage learners in a particular setting or context.
  4. RESEARCH ROUNDTABLE. Share approaches to create new knowledge in the field.

Multiple sessions will be offered each day and participants can select which sessions they would like to attend. Sessions range from 30-45 minutes in length, depending on the format. By design, small groups of only 5-10 participants attend each session. Workshop presenters who wish to participate in the whole program pay a special fee of $300.
