World Summit on Children and Media

International Event Draws Media Producers and Researchers Together
June 14, 2010
Media educators and advocates for children and media are here with us in Sweden for this important international event!

The world’s foremost experts in education, research and media industry from 40 different countries and from every continent of the Earth are contributing to an exciting and challenging conference program! Renee Hobbs and Sherri Hope Culver are representing the Media Education Lab and the National Association of Media Literacy Education. Read Renee's blog about the conference opening here. Renee reviews the highlights of her research presentation here. And listen to my informal summary of my keynote address in an interview at the conference in this video:

From the conference program:

• The development is continuing in a faster pace than we can anticipate. Young people are using different media in more and more situations. Where are we going? Look into the future!
• Hidden advertising through the Internet, e-mail, text messages and other media channels keep reaching our children and youth all the time. How does this affect them?
• Increased media competence through media training makes it possible for the entire staff of a school to reach out with their messages and in a better way meet the students about their media use.
