Explorations into the New World of Digital Publications
Newspapers and news magazines are migrating toward the world of electronic distribution and readers are faced with more choices than ever regarding how they want information delivered. As digital delivery of magazines is challenging both the publishers and advertisers to rethink their messages, educators are asking how today's students can be prepared to evaluate print news in whatever form it is delivered. This forum will provide background on what digital publication delivery means and use Zinio as an example. It also will provide critical thinking tools for educators and other consumers to use to explore the advantages and disadvantages of obtaining print content in a digital format--both as the technology exists now and how it may change in the future.
The Media Education Lab at the University of Rhode Island advances media literacy education through research and community service. We emphasize interdisciplinary scholarship and practice that stands at the intersections of communication, media studies and education.
