Media Literacy in Romania

It was an honor to be invited to meet with 25 media literacy teachers at the Center for Independent Journalism in Bucharest. Thanks to Christina Lupu and Adriana Trocea for the generous invitation.

In a 2-hour interactive workshop:

  1. We reflected on our media literacy motivations and the motivations of our colleagues and peers
  2. We learned about research on what constitutes quality MIL education
  3. We reviewed some ML instructional practices that may be relevant to the Romanian context

For optional extra credit homework, I invited teachers to develop a plan of action to expand their risk taking and improvisation through developing something new:

1. What is the name of your lesson/activity?

2. Who are your learners and what is the learning context?

3. Which instructional practice will students experience?

4. What materials and media artifacts will you need to find, create, or use?

5. How will you assess student learning?
