PRESENTER: Giancarlo Fiorella, Senior Researcher, BellingCat

Anyone with a computer or cell phone can now engage in open-source intelligence (OSINT), the practice of analyzing social media posts, satellite images, and other publicly available data to investigate or uncover the truth of an event, be it a horrific accident or war crime.  However, this pursuit of truth (which is attractive to many youth) can be risky. Exposure to horrific images can lead to Vicarious Trauma (VT) or Secondary Traumatic Stress.

The third session of the Fog of War series features Giancarlo Fiorella, a PHD researcher at the University of Toronto's Centre for Criminology & Sociology and an OSINT practitioner and trainer affiliated with a leading OSINT organization Bellingcat. In a hands-on workshop, Fiorella will present strategies for working with traumatic imagery and share best practices for adults working with youth. This program is coordinated and led by Iglika Ivanova and Jocelyn Ford.
