Skill Building Through Local News

Funded by a federal research and development grant, THINKING PRO is an online instructional program for high school students designed to improve students’ reading comprehension, critical thinking skills, and news media literacy. Join us to learn more about this research-based tool for the high school classroom.

Learn more about the THINKING PRO program, which offers:

  • interactive and self-paced instructional videos that model reading and critical thinking strategies
  • close reading-and-writing assignments that further reinforce these strategies
  • a culminating Capstone Project that provides an authentic learning experience and functions as a strong motivational hook.

Students emerge with improved media literacy skills and a stronger desire to apply them as informed and engaged citizens. All interested teachers will receive free access to the THINKING PRO program. .

    ABOUT THE PRESENTER

    Dr. Florian Feucht is a Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Toledo and Founder of Thinking Habitats. He developed THINKING PRO, a curriculum unit that uses local news as a tool to teach critical thinking, reading comprehension, and media literacy. In his work, he is dedicated to empowering students with thinking tools to lead successful lives and contribute to the wellbeing of their communities.
