In this fourth webinar, we will explore the use of AI in K-12 education. In today's fast-paced and technology-driven world, prompt engineering has become an essential skill for students to develop. This session will provide educators with practical strategies and resources to teach prompt engineering in their classrooms by leveraging various prompt engineering frameworks and strategies such as Prep and Edit, and the SPACE framework to build critical thinking and analysis skills. Through hands-on activities and real-life examples, participants will learn how to guide their students to identify and analyze different types of prompts, to develop effectives questions and refine those questions to get the results they are looking for, and to think critically about the use of AI in teaching and learning.

Dana Thompson
Dana Thompson is an experienced educational leader, with a proven track record of success in management and leadership roles. As Director of Education Technology at the Ventura County Office of Education, Dana has led the development and implementation of professional development programs for educators on the use of education technology tools. In addition, Dana has supervised and evaluated staff, oversaw third-party technology systems, and established processes and procedures for online course development. Dana has a deep understanding of the educational system and a passion for equipping educators with the necessary tools and skills to prepare their students for success.
Catharine Reznicek, Ed.D.
Catharine Reznicek currently serves as a Director of Education Technology at the Ventura County Office of Education where she supports integration of technology tools for teaching and learning. Current projects include building capacity for computer science skills in PK-12 districts. She is also a faculty member at CSU Channel Islands where she teaches Computer Literacy for Educators, and Media Literacy and Youth Culture. Her doctoral dissertation studied the impact of News Media Literacy lessons on students' internal and epistemic political self-efficacy.
This series will explore our understanding of AI literacy and the impacts of AI on media education by discussing the benefits and challenges brought on by AI’s growing presence in the classroom.
What are the impacts of AI in education and media literacy? Should we use AI in the classroom? What does it mean to be AI-literate?
This new AI webinar series from the Media Education Lab explores the potential range of affordances and challenges associated with AI and its implementation as a tool for media education. In particular, the webinars will discuss the use of AI to enhance or hinder the educational experience, the impact of AI on teaching and learning, and the implications of AI-driven technologies such as search engines, chats, images, and videos. The discussion will delve into the ethical implications of AI in media education, including issues of privacy, data security, and copyrights. As part of each session, the webinar series will provide practical advice for educators on how we can best utilize AI in the classroom.
