REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
MEDIA EDUCATION LAB REDESIGN
We are seeking bids for the redesign of the Media Education Lab. This is a great opportunity for a web company to become affiliated with our brand and help us take our message of media literacy to the next level. We're looking for the following changes in the design:
ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS
Same essential features and functions as current website with content types the same. PLUS:
1. Must be responsive on all platforms.
2. Horizontal navigation at the top.
3. Slider splash page - home page feature should be swipable
4. Clearer less cluttered home page design to showcase four elements: Events, Teaching Resources, Research, and Community.
5. Submenu lists of resources presented as a visual gallery, grouped by tag/theme. Especially for Teaching Resources and Publications, we want to "see" these resources. We'll design a visual graphic for each one - these images should display in a gallery type display, perhaps grouped by tags/cateogies.
6. Incorporation of new logo and color palette which we will provide.
7. Optimized for SEO and Google analytics.
8. Social media links on every page
9. Comment function should enables users to use their existing DISCUS or other web identity to discuss content.
10. We like the clean design of competitors like MediaSmarts.ca .
11. We would like our website to look non-commercial, unversity-affiliated-credible but techie and cutting-edge.
12. Because our two target audiences are researchers and K-12 teachers, we need the website to have distinctive sections for each group.
DESIRABLE ELEMENTS.
1. Visually we like to have a UX interface that's something round & techie where the 4 elements of our content are discoverable in a playful fun way, perhaps through a series of layers that reveal as you click.
2. We would love to have a easy-to-edit quiz that could be used to promote and steer people to resources
3. Link to Renee's blog should be visual - overall design: buttons with icons/images rather than just text links would be great.
4. We would love to have a data visualization activity where we use some open-access dataset on media, education & youth and some drag and drop type interactive that lets you "see" patterns in some way.
We would like to complete the project before March 31, 2015.
