Elizaveta Friesem

Fellow Scholar & Writer

Elizaveta Friesem is a scholar, writer, and editor. After publishing a number of academic articles and a book Media Is Us: Understanding Communication and Moving beyond Blame (Rowman & Littlefield, 2021), Elizaveta is now developing her ideas through hypertext projects. Currently, her main focus is the project POWER of meanings // MEANINGS of power that aims to challenge the binary thinking about power while at the same time dealing with society's injustices and inequalities. Elizaveta's guiding vision is to help people combine awareness about social problems with collaboration across divides through empathy. As an immigrant with an interdisciplinary background and a passion for empathy, she believes that her main strength is an ability to draw from different fields and communities, and to find solutions that combine contradictory perspectives. Elizaveta Friesem served as a co-editor of the Journal of Media Literacy Education between 2019 and 2022. In her free time, she enjoys learning languages, writing poems, and doing epoxy resin crafts.
