Agents of Influence

The Gamification of Media Literacy

Come join us for a discussion on how to blend gaming with curricula and learning standards to best equip students to be informed and responsible digital citizens!

Despite the growing, multidisciplinary efforts to address media literacy and information education, research shows an alarming number of young “digital natives” are unequipped to accurately assess information online. How do we ensure a healthy public in which people use good information to inform good decisions? How do we get students to take what they’re learning in the classroom and apply it in the “real world”?

Meet the folks who are developing Agents of Influence, a spy-themed media literacy video game, in which middle school students work to defeat Dr. Disinfo, an embodiment of online misinformation. Gameplay covers topics including media bias, manipulated content, and pseudoscience, equipping players with the tools and knowledge to defeat misinformation in their own lives.
