A democratic civilization will save itself only if it makes the language of the image into a stimulus for critical reflection, not an invitation to hypnosis.
Digital Media and Teen Culture in Mexico
Pam Steager is delighted to be participating in the Media Literacy Forum in Mexico City on September 27, 2018 in an event sponsored by the radio and television ministry of Mexico. She will be participating in a panel discussion and offering a 3-hour workshop to teen girls, called "Digital Media and Teen Cutlure."
In this session, we’ll investigate teen uses of media and digital technology and explore what we love and hate about living life online. By analyzing a variety of media messages using critical questions of media literacy, we’ll examine celebrity culture, text messaging, relationship drama and the role of media in shaping personal and social identity.
We’ll discuss and debate how media and technology use may affect our sense of self and our place in the world.
By creating media using free digital tools, we’ll share interpretations and talk back to media as we understand how carefully media messages are constructed to inform, persuade and entertain.
