Detroit PBS and the Michigan Learning Channel are expanding media literacy offerings to K-12 educators and their students. Join us to learn about the newest series of content from Read, Write, ROAR!, a popular program from the Michigan Learning Channel. The new upper elementary series helps build media literacy skills for students in 4th and 5th grade using standards-aligned social studies and science lessons. You will have a chance to watch an episode and practice media literacy skills, ask questions, and think about how you might use these lessons in your own classroom setting. We'll also discuss Iconic Michigan, now entering its second year. This initiative brings together 20 educators from across the state of Michigan, each guiding their students through documentary filmmaking projects that spotlight the unique qualities that make their communities truly iconic.
