Jenna Meleedy

Education Advocacy Intern

Jenna is an Education Advocacy Intern at the Media Education Lab, a Youth Advisory Council Member and Social Media Intern at the National Association for Media Literacy Education and a News Literacy Ambassador with the News Literacy Initiative at Penn State. She is a rising senior at Penn State pursuing a B.A. in Media Studies with minors in Civic and Community Engagement and Communication Arts and Sciences. She is a Bellisario College Fellow, a news media certified educator and a recipient of the Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications Davis Ethics Award.

Coming of age in the midst of the most divisive political cycles in recent history drove Jenna’s fascination for media literacy, and she has dedicated her academic career to the advancement of media literacy education as a tool for empowerment and a combatant to political radicalization. She creates resources for educators to develop and implement the best practices in youth media literacy instruction and works to increase accessibility and collaboration within the field. Her goal is to see the progression of new state education legislation focused on critical media engagement and digital citizenship.
Jenna hopes to lead a new generation of media literacy advocates and share the joy of media literacy as an escape from the chaos of the digital world and a source of hope for the future of democracy. This fall, she will travel to the Czech Republic to begin teaching media literacy abroad.
