PRESENTER: Dr. Renee Hobbs, University of Rhode Island professor and founder of the Media Education Lab
Media literacy is now gaining traction in academic fields including media and communication, rhetoric and composition, the arts and education, as well as in business and computer science. Deepen your understanding of media literacy in higher education and help students acquire digital and media literacy competencies with Renee Hobbs' Media Literacy in Action: Questioning the Media, in the newly released second edition published in January 2025 by Rowman and Littlefield. In this session, Professor Hobbs will share stories of how librarians and teachers have used the book in colleges and universities. She will showcase some of the new content on teaching about AI and machine learning, algorithmic personalization, media regulation, and big data, privacy, and surveillance. .
