Learning about Islamic Civilizations in Europe through a Global Education Partnership in Media Literacy

Concepts of media literacy were added to the English language arts curriculum at a Alyousra Middle School in Kuwait with a focus on the idea that all messages are constructed. Students learn that each message should be questioned and analyzed to determine the accuracy, since messages always carry the point of view of the creator. As Kuwaiti middle-school students learn about Islamic civilization in Europe, they share their knowledge with a group of high school students at the Bishop Stang High School in Massachusetts using digital media tools. Students across the two cultures interact and respond to each others' questions in an activity that promotes global understanding.
